BSC construction
Alan Bell currently leading the construction of the Beam Scintillator Counters project, a subdetector on the ends of the barrel of the main Compact Muon Solenoid detector experiment. The BSC is part of the Beam Radiation Monitoring project which is designed to provide monitoring of beam conditions and to give early warning of the onset of unfavourable conditions to enable beam aborts and power-down of sensitive CMS subdetector components. The BSC is made from scintillator tiles and photomultiplier tubes from the decommissioned OPAL detector from the CERN LEP electron-positron project.
